I am sure I am not alone when I say our family life is busy. Juggling homework, afterschool sports lessons, classmates’ birthday parties and playdates is quite a feat. Not to mention laundry, housework, grocery shopping, cooking … and then of course there’s the paid work.
Now we are almost half way through another year, I am genuinely shocked by how fast my boys’ childhood is slipping past. There are so many childhood experiences I want them to have. Watching them flying kites with their grandfather recently has prompted me to make a conscience decision to write a list and timetable it into our busy schedule. This sounds ridiculous, however, I fear time will just tick on by and the moments will be lost.
On that note, Sunday afternoon is now Board Game Sunday. We have played various board games over the years but not on a regular basis. Board games offer so much: following instructions, counting and literacy opportunities, problem solving and (the big one) sportsmanship. I write this with a smile on my face as it is still a skill we are working on in our household!
I love doing activities together as a family and by allocating a specific time for them, it will be more likely to happen.
What childhood activities would be on your list? I’d love to hear your thoughts …
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
